Why Our School
Keeping a close watch on student progress, Lowell identifies issues and helps students early on to ensure academic success. Individual plans are developed, and students receive the support they need in the classroom.
Lowell also has a special focus on the transition from elementary to middle school. In fourth and fifth grades, teachers teach one subject that they are passionate about. Students have three rotations a day. This approach allows teachers to focus on their subject at a deeper level and prepares students for middle school where they will have more than one teacher.
Lowell is part of the Whole Child Initiative, a partnership between Tacoma Public Schools and the University of Washington Tacoma. This school-wide Positive Behavior Support (PBS) model helps to create a safe and positive learning environment. The Lowell PTA provides a strong partnership and support for all students.
