Meet Lowell's Principal

Josh Benedict
Principal
Dear Lowell Elementary Community,
It is a privilege to continue serving as the principal of Lowell Elementary. Over the years, Lowell has become a place I am deeply proud of. Each year, I remain inspired by our students, families, and staff, and I am excited to continue our shared work of providing the best possible learning environment for every child we serve.
I bring 25 years of experience in education, having served in the Auburn, Eastmont, Othello, and Mukilteo school districts. Prior to coming to Tacoma Public Schools, I worked in the Mukilteo School District as a PK–12 Central Office Administrator and as the Principal of Mukilteo Elementary School. These experiences have strengthened my belief that all students can learn and succeed when they are supported by caring adults, strong instruction, and inclusive school communities, values that are central to Lowell Elementary.
At Lowell, and across Tacoma Public Schools, we focus on supporting the whole child as the foundation for learning. We strive to create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where students’ academic growth is supported alongside their social and emotional development. When students feel a sense of belonging, well-being, and connection, they are better prepared to take on challenges and reach their goals.
Family involvement and partnership are essential to our success. We deeply value the relationships we build with families and caregivers and recognize that students thrive most when schools and families work together. Your involvement, trust, and collaboration make a meaningful difference in our school community.
We also take great pride in the achievements of our students. At Lowell, we hold high expectations and are committed to supporting every learner in reaching their full potential. Our students continue to demonstrate growth, perseverance, and excellence, and we celebrate both their accomplishments and the effort that leads to them.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our two teenagers and all the adventures that go along with that. When I’m not at school, I can often be found at the pool or baseball games, as our children are very involved in their sports. In my spare time, I enjoy drumming, sports, and playing with our energetic black Labrador retriever.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. It is an honor to work alongside such a dedicated community, and I look forward to another meaningful year of learning and growth at Lowell Elementary.
